Available Edge Treatments
While the standard coin edge is a classic look and still a very popular choice among many, you are also able to choose from several different edge treatments to set your organisation, business or cooperate coins apart from the rest.
Available Plating Processes
Much like the colouring process, choosing different plating processes can both make the colours, edge treatments and design pop, as well as add a completely different look to your coin from bling to a modern look to classic or antique.
Helpful Tip: As long as the overall design stays the same, you can have some coins in an order plated one way, then have some coins plated another. Example: For Fire Department challenge coins, you could have the coins you plan to hand out to members be plated in Gold and the ones made available to non member plated in Matte Nickle. There may be some differences in prices from one plating process to another
Diameter & Thickness
Depending on your artwork, what your plans are for the coin may help determine the diameter and thickness you wish to use for your organisation, business or corporate needs.
Thickness
- There are three thicknesses available; 3 mm, 4 mm, and 5 mm. The thickness will determine the weight of the coin with a 3 mm being the lightest. A 3 mm coin is popular as a giveaway for businesses & corporations, whereas 5 mm is more popular for presentation coins for organisations such as a token of thanks, years of service and more. With the weight of a 5 mm coin, recipients receiving one tend to feel like they are receiving something special. A 4 mm Coin tends to be a balance between the two.
Diameter
- The most popular designs are for coins from 1.5″ – 3″. Depending on your design, and how detailed, it may be better suited to a larger coin vs a smaller one in order to capture every detail in your design. Aside from that, coin sizes are generally chosen around what you wish to do with them. For corporate giveaways at conferences or client meetings you may find a 1.5″ – 1.75″ coin will suit you just fine, whereas for issuing coins to members or employees, you may find a good pocket carry coin ranges from 1.5″ – 2″ with anything larger typically being a collectable or presentation piece that can be displayed in a case or on a stand. Coins are not limited to a circular shape and can be die-cut.
